Dumpster Rental Cost in Bloomington, IL: What Drives It

How we price a dumpster

Dumpster rental prices vary with the dumpster size, the type of debris, the weight going to the disposal facility, the delivery location and the rental length, plus any swap-outs or extra pickups. We offer flat-rate pricing whenever possible: delivery, pickup and disposal are typically included in your quote, with no hidden fees.

For our 10 yard dumpster, the average cost is $350–$550, depending on location, debris type, rental length and disposal weight. The bigger sizes are quoted by phone, because the things that decide the number, what is going in, how heavy it is and how far the truck runs, change from job to job. Call (309) 893-1463 with the address and the material for a flat quote. We accept major credit and debit cards, and payment is generally made when your booking is confirmed, to reserve your delivery slot.

What a flat rate covers

A flat-rate quote typically includes delivery and pickup, disposal up to the included weight allowance, and the standard rental period. That is the whole job for most customers. The rest of this guide is about the few things that can change it, and how to keep them from changing it.

The biggest cost inside any flat rate is disposal. Illinois EPA lists no active municipal solid waste landfill in McLean County: the McLean County and City of Bloomington landfills are both in post-closure care, so loads travel to permitted facilities outside the county. Mixed construction debris goes to recovery facilities, which Illinois requires to recycle at least 40% of the general construction or demolition debris they receive (415 ILCS 5/22.38), while a clean load of broken concrete, brick, rock or asphalt is handled as clean construction or demolition debris (415 ILCS 5/3.160). Different facilities take different materials at different rates, so the material decides the disposal cost. Whenever possible we work with local disposal and recycling facilities so metal, concrete, asphalt, cardboard and yard waste can be recycled.

The things that move it

Size and weight. Each dumpster includes a weight allowance based on its size and the debris type, commonly 1–2 tons on a 10 yard, 2–3 on a 15, 3–4 on a 20, 4–5 on a 30 and 5–6 on a 40. If your debris goes over, overage fees may apply based on disposal weight. Concrete, dirt, brick, asphalt, tile and shingles use it up fast, so for heavy loads we may recommend a smaller box or split loads.

Days. Standard rentals commonly run 3 to 7 days, and your quote confirms the days. Need longer? We can often extend and price it as a daily or weekly extension. Finished early? Call and we can schedule an early pickup.

Distance. Delivery location is part of every quote. From our yard on the southwest side of Bloomington, approx. road miles are: Bloomington city centre 3, Normal 6, Downs 11, Heyworth 12, Hudson 14, Danvers 15, Towanda 16, Le Roy 18, Clinton 23, Lexington and El Paso 24, Lincoln 29, Gridley 31, Chenoa 32 and Pontiac 43. Approximate figures, but they explain why the longer runs can cost a little more.

Extra service. Additional pickups, swap-outs of a full box for an empty one, and an upgrade to a bigger size are all priced as part of the quote.

Banned items cost money

Illinois keeps a list of materials out of landfills, and the rules reach whoever mixes them in, not just the facility: electronics such as TVs, computers, monitors and printers (415 ILCS 151/1-83), car and truck batteries (415 ILCS 5/22.23, a petty offense with a $100 fine), tires whole or cut (415 ILCS 5/55(b-1)), large appliances unless their refrigerant and other components are removed (415 ILCS 5/22.28), landscape waste (415 ILCS 5/22.22) and liquid used oil (415 ILCS 5/21.6). Normal's code says no private refuse hauler may collect anything state or federal law bars from a landfill (§ 21.1-6(G)). So an old TV or a set of tires tossed in at the end can cost more than it is worth.

Keep these out, along with our own no list: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste and asbestos. The what-goes-in guide says where each one goes instead.

What the do-it-yourself options cost

For a small job, a city or village program may do. For anything bigger, the limits add up:

OptionPublished charge or limitNotes
Bloomington City bulk and building-waste pickupFirst bucket no charge; $30.00 per additional bucket (Schedule of Fees, May 10, 2026)Every other week; no waste from contractor work; no contaminated broken concrete, brick, rock or asphalt (§ 21-307)
Bloomington Citizen Convenience Center, 402 S. East St.Residents onlyNo businesses or contractors; no concrete, rock, shingles or brick; closed January 1 to March 31
Town of Normal curbsideGarbage $32.00 a month on the Town bill; items up to 500 poundsNo brush or construction waste from contractor work (§ 21.1-3); over 500 pounds, the Town says rent a dumpster
Le Roy City dumpster, 410 N HemlockLe Roy residents only; fines for non-customer dumpingFor large household items; no commercial construction or demolition material
Towanda spring and fall cleanup dumpstersVillage residents onlyNot for business cleanups
Clinton City Wide CleanupOne voucher per householdLimited to one pickup truck or six cubic yards

Every do-it-yourself trip is a covered load too: Illinois law bars driving any vehicle on a highway unless the load cannot drop, shift, leak or escape, and any covering must be securely fastened (625 ILCS 5/15-109). Add the drive, the bucket fees and the weight limits, and past a handful of trips one roll-off usually wins on money and on weekends.

City permits and notices worth knowing

None of these change our flat rate, but they can add to the cost of a job. On a private driveway in Bloomington we found no permit at all, and the City's Engineering page lists no fee for the Dumpster Permit itself. The City's fee schedule does list Street Closure Permits for obstructing a sidewalk, parkway or parking lane ($40.00 for up to two weeks, $70.00 for up to a month) and a traffic lane ($10.00 a day), but it does not say whether a dumpster permit is billed that way, so ask Engineering before you count on a number. Normal's Dumpster/Storage Container Permit form states no fee. In Lincoln, a street permit for a dumpster over 2 cubic yards needs a bond with the City Clerk of at least $1,000, or $10,000 for the year (§ 8-3-3). On a state route there is no permit path at all.

One more cost on bigger jobs. For a regulated asbestos demolition or renovation, owners and operators send Illinois EPA a $150 fee with the notification form 10 working days before work starts. Privately owned homes and apartment buildings with four or fewer units are exempt, unless the building has had or will have commercial or public use.

Dumpster or junk removal, and getting a quote

For anything beyond a couple of pickup loads, a container you load yourself is usually the better value, because you are paying for the box rather than the labor. For a single couch or appliance, or a cleanout with nobody to lift, our junk removal service may suit you better: our crew handles the loading, hauling and disposal, priced on volume and labor time. Call (309) 893-1463 — the phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In many areas around Bloomington and nearby communities we offer same-day or next-day delivery, depending on availability; call early for the best chance of same-day.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster in Bloomington?

It depends on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the weight, the rental length and the delivery location. Our 10 yard averages $350 to $550 depending on location, debris type, rental length and disposal weight; larger sizes are quoted by phone. We offer flat-rate pricing whenever possible.

What is included in a flat rate?

Delivery and pickup, disposal up to the included weight allowance, and the standard rental period. Going over the weight allowance, keeping the box longer, or extra pickups and swap-outs are what can add to it.

Does a Bloomington street permit cost extra?

The City Engineering page lists no fee for the Dumpster Permit itself. The fee schedule lists Street Closure Permits from $40 for up to two weeks, but it does not say whether a dumpster is billed that way, so check with Engineering. A driveway needs no permit that we found.

Does it cost more outside Bloomington?

Delivery location is part of the quote, so the longer runs can cost a little more: Lincoln is approx. 29 road miles from our yard and Pontiac approx. 43. Permit rules also change from town to town.
