Roll-off dumpster rental in Downs
Approx. 11 road miles from the yard, around 14 minutes.
Downs is approx. 11 road miles east-southeast of the yard, around 14 minutes — same-day or next-day when availability allows, once the Village's rules for the job are checked; call early for the best chance of same-day. It is a village of 1,201 at the 2020 Census, in McLean County.
The Village's history says the Kickapoo set up a trading post just west of Kickapoo Creek, along what is now U.S. Highway 150; settlers started a small community called Delta around 1829, and when a railway came through in 1869 the town moved closer to the rail and was renamed Priceville in honor of John Price. Village-contracted pickup runs on Thursdays, and its monthly bulk pickup takes no bricks, block or construction material.

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Downs
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Kickapoo Creek — the trading post stood just west of it, along today's U.S. Highway 150, the Village's history says.
- Delta and Priceville — the 1829 settlement of Delta moved closer to the 1869 railway and was renamed Priceville for John Price.
- Village refuse — weekly Thursday pickup, recycling on the second and fourth Thursday and bulk pickup on the first Thursday; the garbage rate is $15.75 a month from June 1, 2026.
- Contractor debris — the Village's street page says its pickup is a courtesy for homeowners and contractor debris must be hauled away by the contractor.
- Village Hall — 211 S. Seminary Street.
What comes out of Downs properties
Roofing in 10s and 20s, yard and storm clean-ups in 15s and 20s, remodels and larger clean-outs in 20s, estate clean-outs in 30s, and a 10 or 15 for concrete, brick and dirt — heavy material usually only goes in the smaller boxes. Bricks, block and construction material are what Village bulk pickup leaves behind. Illinois keeps some things out of landfills: TVs, computers, monitors, printers and other electronics (415 ILCS 151/1-83); lead-acid vehicle batteries (415 ILCS 5/22.23); tires, whole or cut (415 ILCS 5/55); refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water heaters and other large appliances unless their refrigerant and mercury parts have been removed (415 ILCS 5/22.28); and liquid used oil (415 ILCS 5/21.6). Landfills can't take landscape waste, and it can't be mixed with other waste headed for one (415 ILCS 5/22.22) — tell us if a load is yard waste, and before you load an appliance. No paint, solvents, oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, propane tanks, gas cylinders, batteries, medical waste or asbestos.

Sizes
Choosing a container size in Downs
Weight is what usually decides the size, not how much room the pile takes up.
| Size | Dimensions | Capacity | Weight included | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 Yard Dumpster | about 14 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 3.5 ft high | about 3 pickup truck loads | 1–2 tons | Small kitchen and bathroom remodels, roof tear-offs, garage and single-room cleanouts, and concrete, tile, asphalt and brick within the weight limit. |
| 15 Yard Dumpster | about 16 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 4.5 ft high | about 4–5 pickup truck loads | 2–3 tons | Garage, attic and basement cleanouts, kitchen and bath remodels, flooring and carpet removal, light roofing, small decks and fences, and yard waste. |
| 20 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 4.5 ft high | about 6 pickup truck loads | 3–4 tons | Whole-home cleanouts, multi-room renovations, roofing projects, large landscaping jobs and light demolition with mixed debris. |
| 30 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 6 ft high | about 9 pickup truck loads | 4–5 tons | Multi-room and full-house renovations, estate and rental property cleanouts, retail and office remodels, light demolition and community cleanups. |
| 40 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 8 ft high | about 12 pickup truck loads | 5–6 tons | Commercial renovations, new builds and major demolition, full-home remodels, warehouse and office cleanouts, commercial roofing and large event cleanups. |
Permits, placement and who may haul in Downs
Who may haul — read this first: Downs' Public Health chapter says “Any occupied residence and/or place of business shall be required to use the refuse collection provided by the Village” (Ch. 4, Art. II, Sec. 4(e)), and that dumpsters may be required for commercial and multi-family buildings (Sec. 2(b)). The code doesn't say whether a short-term construction roll-off counts as refuse collection. Illinois law bars any city or village under 1,000,000 people from awarding a new franchise or contract for collecting construction or demolition debris (65 ILCS 5/11-19-1(f); contracts in place on 1 January 2018 excepted). We check the Village's rules before booking a container in Downs. We found no Village hauler licence chapter. We're licensed and insured.
In the street: “It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to cause, create or maintain any obstruction of any street, alley, sidewalk or other public way, except as may be specifically authorized by ordinance or by the Village Board and/or the Chairman of the Streets” (Ch. 8, Sec. 8), and no garbage or refuse may be deposited in a street, alley or public way (Ch. 4, Art. II, Sec. 3). No fee is stated. A driveway is the simple spot.
Truck route: vehicles over 18,000 pounds are kept to designated routes, with a local-delivery exception for the shortest route to the drop-off (Ch. 8, Art. IX), so a roll-off truck takes the shortest way in.
State routes: IDOT requires a highway permit before any work in the right-of-way of an interstate, a US route, an Illinois route or another state-maintained road (605 ILCS 5/4-209, as IDOT cites it), and it has no dumpster or container permit type — so beside a state route the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. Not every stretch through a town is state-maintained, so we check the exact address.
Knocking something down: before a regulated asbestos demolition or renovation, Illinois EPA must get a notification form and a $150 fee 10 working days ahead. A privately owned house, or an apartment building of four or fewer units, is exempt unless it has had or will have a commercial or public use. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if you find any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Downs
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
You get a flat-rate quote whenever possible that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep it below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, chemicals, tires, batteries, propane tanks and gas cylinders, medical waste, asbestos, TVs and computers, and fridges or other appliances still holding refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We haul it and dispose of it right
The load is tarped and goes to a permitted facility, with metal, concrete, asphalt and yard waste recycled whenever facilities accept them. You get your driveway back the way you left it.
