Roll-off dumpster rental in Normal
Approx. 6 road miles from the yard, around 14 minutes.
Normal is approx. 6 road miles north-northeast of the yard, around 14 minutes — same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early for the best chance of same-day. It is a town of 52,736 at the 2020 Census, in McLean County; with Bloomington it made 131,416 people.
The Town collects from one- and two-family homes as a mandatory service at $32 a month, but weekly pickup is limited to items of no more than 500 pounds, and it takes no brush or construction and demolition waste created by anyone working as a contractor (§ 21.1-3). The Town's Bulky Waste page puts it plainly: property owners “must rent a commercial dumpster from a private firm” when they are doing major renovations such as re-roofing, removing and replacing concrete driveways and sidewalks, or have debris over 500 pounds.

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Normal
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Twin cities — Bloomington and Normal together had 131,416 people at the 2020 Census, about 77% of McLean County.
- Town garbage — mandatory for one- and two-family homes at $32 a month (§ 21.1-2(A)); buildings of more than two units and businesses use private collectors.
- The 500-pound line — the Town says not to put items over 500 lbs at the curb and to call a private waste collection contractor for larger amounts.
- Electronics drop-off — 1301 Warriner Street, for McLean County residents only (no businesses), weekdays plus the first Saturday of each month, 8 a.m. to noon; no appliances, light bulbs or alkaline batteries.
- Normal Engineering — street dumpster and storage container permits are applied for online; questions to 309-454-9578.
What comes out of Normal properties
Re-roofs in 10s and 20s, garage clean-outs and flooring in 15s, remodels and larger clean-outs in 20s, multi-room renovations and estate clean-outs in 30s, construction and major demolition in 30s and 40s, and a 10 or 15 for a driveway or sidewalk tear-out — heavy material usually only goes in the smaller boxes. Those are the jobs the Town sends to a rented dumpster. Keep the load from blowing or smelling: Town code bars roll-off contents that would cause a nuisance or offensive odor or scatter in the wind (§ 21.1-4(A)(2)). Illinois keeps some things out of landfills: TVs, computers, monitors, printers and other electronics (415 ILCS 151/1-83); lead-acid vehicle batteries (415 ILCS 5/22.23); tires, whole or cut (415 ILCS 5/55); refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water heaters and other large appliances unless their refrigerant and mercury parts have been removed (415 ILCS 5/22.28); and liquid used oil (415 ILCS 5/21.6). Landfills can't take landscape waste, and it can't be mixed with other waste headed for one (415 ILCS 5/22.22) — tell us if a load is yard waste, and before you load an appliance. No paint, solvents, oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, propane tanks, gas cylinders, batteries, medical waste or asbestos.

Sizes
Choosing a container size in Normal
Weight is what usually decides the size, not how much room the pile takes up.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 Yard Dumpster | about 14 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 3.5 ft high | about 3 pickup truck loads | 1–2 tons | Small kitchen and bathroom remodels, roof tear-offs, garage and single-room cleanouts, and concrete, tile, asphalt and brick within the weight limit. |
| 15 Yard Dumpster | about 16 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 4.5 ft high | about 4–5 pickup truck loads | 2–3 tons | Garage, attic and basement cleanouts, kitchen and bath remodels, flooring and carpet removal, light roofing, small decks and fences, and yard waste. |
| 20 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 4.5 ft high | about 6 pickup truck loads | 3–4 tons | Whole-home cleanouts, multi-room renovations, roofing projects, large landscaping jobs and light demolition with mixed debris. |
| 30 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 6 ft high | about 9 pickup truck loads | 4–5 tons | Multi-room and full-house renovations, estate and rental property cleanouts, retail and office remodels, light demolition and community cleanups. |
| 40 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 8 ft high | about 12 pickup truck loads | 5–6 tons | Commercial renovations, new builds and major demolition, full-home remodels, warehouse and office cleanouts, commercial roofing and large event cleanups. |
Permits, placement and who may haul in Normal
Who may haul — the rule that matters: “No person shall engage in the business of collecting or removing refuse within the Town except as an employee of the Town … or as a private refuse collector operating in compliance with this Section” (§ 21.1-5(A)), and the code's “refuse” includes construction and demolition wastes (§ 21.1-1). Private collectors' trucks need a tight cover, closed while in transit (§ 21.1-5(B)(2)), and a dumpster may not stay on a customer's property more than six days after service ends (§ 21.1-5(B)(3)). The Town also requires every business operating in Normal to apply for a business license each year, at no fee. We found no exclusive roll-off franchise. We're licensed and insured.
Hours: collections from single-family and two-family homes may only happen from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday; multi-family and business sites from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. (§ 21.1-5(B)(1)). We book drop-offs, swaps and pickups at homes inside that window — no Sundays.
On your property: § 21.1-4(B)(2)(b) says roll-off boxes are not permitted in a front yard or on the street right-of-way unless the Building Commissioner (for a required front or side yard) or the Director of Public Works (for the right-of-way) gives temporary permission, and dumpsters and roll-offs sit on a concrete or asphalt pad. The section is written mainly for business and multi-family properties, but the safe spot at a house is the driveway — not the lawn.
In the street: Normal Engineering issues a Dumpster/Storage Container Permit through an online form asking for the location, the dates and the work. The form says a lighted barricade may be required, traffic control follows the Illinois Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, work happens only in daylight and not on six listed holidays, the right-of-way is restored afterwards, and the applicant holds the Town harmless. It states no fee and no time limit. Obstructing a street, sidewalk or parkway without authority is unlawful (§ 8.1-9).
Tearing a building down: “All refuse resulting from the demolition of any building must be removed from the building site within seven (7) days following demolition” (§ 21.1-6(F)) — book the roll-offs before demo day.
Covered loads: Illinois bars driving a load that can drop, shift or leak (625 ILCS 5/15-109), and trucks carrying garbage or refuse must have a working tailgate and a cover or tarp (625 ILCS 5/15-109.1(f)).
Knocking something down: before a regulated asbestos demolition or renovation, Illinois EPA must get a notification form and a $150 fee 10 working days ahead. A privately owned house, or an apartment building of four or fewer units, is exempt unless it has had or will have a commercial or public use. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if you find any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Normal
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
You get a flat-rate quote whenever possible that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep it below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, chemicals, tires, batteries, propane tanks and gas cylinders, medical waste, asbestos, TVs and computers, and fridges or other appliances still holding refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We haul it and dispose of it right
The load is tarped and goes to a permitted facility, with metal, concrete, asphalt and yard waste recycled whenever facilities accept them. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

Local answers
Dumpster rental in Normal — common questions
Is Normal same-day?
Same-day or next-day when availability allows — it is about 14 minutes from the yard. Call (309) 893-1463 early for the best chance. Home drop-offs and pickups are Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Normal?
For the street or right-of-way, yes: Town code keeps roll-offs off the right-of-way without the Director of Public Works' permission (Sec. 21.1-4), and Normal Engineering issues a Dumpster/Storage Container Permit online. At a house, the driveway is the safe spot, not the front lawn.
What hours can you deliver in Normal?
Town code allows collections at one- and two-family homes only from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday (Sec. 21.1-5). We book home drop-offs, swaps and pickups inside that window.
Will the Town take my remodel debris?
Not a big job. The Town says owners must rent a commercial dumpster for major renovations such as re-roofing, for removing and replacing concrete driveways and sidewalks, and for debris over 500 pounds, and it takes no construction debris created by a contractor (Sec. 21.1-3).
